And We Return to Breathe

for 2 Vocalists, 2 Percussionists, and Multimedia

with the Prelude The Introduction of Breathing

And We Return to Breathe (2026) presents circulation and feedback as two coexisting structures shaping human presence. Breathing is the most fundamental biological cycle, while natural processes, animal life, and social systems all operate within repeating patterns. The mouth is an entry point, the beginning of consumption. The eyes hunt for desire. The teeth shape and break what is consumed. The throat carries breath and voice, where conscious circulation and subconscious desire resonate. The clock is circular in form, yet human experience is shaped by linear time. As time continuously moves forward, when we attempt to prolong it to sustain desire, irreversible linear time ultimately interrupts these cycles.

In this piece, circulation is a process driven by intention, a directed movement through time, while feedback involves repetition and return, creating a circular structure that echoes back upon itself. Human life exists between these two forces: our conscious actions move forward with intention, while subconscious desires repeatedly return. These two forces resonate with one another, existing in parallel and becoming the environment around us.
